Are Snakes Halal to Eat?

It is not considered to be halal to eat snakes, because practicing Muslims are not allowed to eat any animals which eat other animals, such as these reptiles. It is considered to be “haram” to eat reptiles along with other meat-eating animals. There are certain types of meat which are allowed in the Islamic religion, such as chicken, sheep, lamp, turkey, fish, salmon, shrimp, and cow.

Those who follow the teachings of Islam are only allowed to eating certain types of foods, and that does not include snakes of any kind. Although some snakes do live in the sea, others live and land, and because of that and other things, they are considered “halal”.

only things u cannot eat are blood/pig/dead meat/and meat not sacrified to allah.
You decide yourself if you want to eat frogs snakes worms dogs cats infact anything allah has created on earth…. they are not forbidden…you are allowed to catch them then sacrifice them to allah and they are halal. Allah also says anyone who forbids you food allah himself has not forbid is going to get the same punishment as an idol worshiper. Do not apply any other rule eg its a predator so not allowed…this is nonsense because fish such as cod and tuna are hunters and feed on mussels, haddock, mackerel, sand eels, lobsters, whiting and small cod as well. So saying you cannot eat predators is nonsense and the quran does not forbid it.

      Brother Imran

Apart from the list you have mentioned in the Quran, there are other animals which the messenger (peace and blessing be upon him) has prohibited to eat. So, one cannot decide only based on the Quran..you need to refer to the authentic hadiths as well to come to a conclusion

      Jazakallah Khair.

I agree that if it isn’t written in the Quran than you should use your best judgement….a lot of Hadith are questionable on validity….n it doesn’t make sense that predators from the sea are fine to eat but not land or air….ppl just follow anything without thinking

You are mistaken. How did we know that we had to pray five times a day and in a specific order? Or how to do zakat? The quraan mentions that these acts are required but not how, the prophet SAW explains how to do these acts. And this is infact one of the relations the sunnah(hadiths and etc) has with quraan, where the quraan mentions something but not explain it but the sunnah does.

I would recommend against that because dogs are najs or unpure like pigs, so your arguement is invalid.

    Clear an uninformed answer
“It is not considered to be halal to eat snakes, because practicing Muslims are not allowed to eat any animals which eat other animals, such as these reptiles”
Fish eat other fish and they are perfectly halal. Chicken eat insects. Another example. Imran’s comment is quite good while Khalil’s comment lacks sound basis.

      as salamu alaikum dear brother.

besides pigs, dead meat and blood. Allah tells us in Quran that we have to avoid bad food as well. Since the messenger is the “Explainer” of the quran such as he explained us how to pray (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) he also told us to avoid animals who haunt other and catch them with their incisors. Seafood is an exception because Allah clearly mentions it is halal, even if it is dead. Animals eating other animals is not a good explanation, but maybe better to say predators. Also the messenger told us that some snakes are bad jinn. So we should totally avoid them.. But this is not a fiqh opinion Im not qualified for that, just for califying your post..

The onyl time Muslim’s can eat animals that are forbidden is if they are going to die unless they eat it so the person may have had to eat it. Also, just because one muslim does it doesn’t mean it’s halal

    Assalamu Alaikum

Regarding halal or haram. We have been guided by the Quran and many hadiths.
At the same time we need to break down the guidance to solve daily rising issues on what is allowed and what’s not.
Eg any animal that eats another animal, a predator, is considered haram according to hadiths and Quran : but we eat chickens that are predators, they eat insects, lizards/frogs and small mammals like mice. So is a chicken haram?
It’s a question that many cannot or even don’t want to answer.

I eat halal meat, like chicken, ducks, sheep, Goat, beef, camel. Most basic stuff that our prophet May peace be upon him, used to eat in his days.

I know there are other exotic meat like crocodile, snake, snails, monkeys etc

But I choose to stick to usual halal meat.

Snake is referred many times as bad. So I would not want to have anything to do with a snake. Stay clear from the serpent.

If my comment upset or offend anyone, please accept my humble apology. My intention was not to

Things that allah(swt) made haram is in quran
5- Chapter: 5 , Verse: 3 Prohibited to you are dead animals, blood, the flesh of swine, and that which has been dedicated to other than Allah , and [those animals] killed by strangling or by a violent blow or by a head-long fall or by the goring of horns, and those from which a wild animal has eaten, except what you [are able to] slaughter [before its death], and those which are sacrificed on stone altars, and [prohibited is] that you seek decision through divining arrows. That is grave disobedience.and rest is halal.
and quran is complete stop making your life complicated and looking at sahi or fabricated hadith or fatwa or opinion of scholar’s.

If the quraan is complete, why then is there no mention of how to pray or how many times to pray or when to pray? This is not the only case wgere the quran does not go into specifics for god knows best.

According to Hadith or Quran , it says, any animals who preys other animal is haram. And i dont think mussels, or small reptiles and insects are Animals. And specifically Quran mentioned, that muslims should follow uswa e hasna (life of hazrat Muhammad s.a.w ) and HE DID NOT EAT dogs , snakes, rats, monkeys or donkeys.
